Moving Through Anger
Bullies infuriate me!
When someone hurts my family...friends...students, it makes me feel-
🤬🤬🤬ANGER!🤬🤬🤬
Social injustices make me feel-
🤬🤬🤬ANGER! 🤬🤬🤬
Sometimes people are hurtful through deliberate evil; many times through selfish unconsciousness.
Whatever the reason...it ticks me off! And you know what? That’s ok.
There is a common misconception about anger- that it’s somehow “not spiritual” and if you’re a yogi, you’re not allowed to feel it. If you’re a mindful person, you’re not allowed to feel it. If you are a peaceful & kind person, you’re not allowed to feel it.
Forget that nonsense.
Yoga teaches us to feel the anger, understand it and use our practice to move through it- not away from it. Did you hear me? THROUGH it. Yoga, mindfulness or kindness does not require us to suppress our emotions. We create awareness in the present moment, and work through it...as many times as necessary...coming back to the breath and turning inward.
Learning the lessons...that’s what is important. Anger can be a powerful teacher. Why are we angry? Now...what are we going to do about it?
Are we going to let it poison us? Sow seeds of hatred? Create patterns of self-destruction? Kill our spirit and grow bitterness in its place?
Or we going to let it teach us the lessons? Call us to action? Lead us to change and positivity? Drive us to become better people?
The awesome thing is...WE get to decide. Being angry doesn’t mean we are bad. It means we’ve recognized that something needs to change. So let’s do it!
Together.
If you think you’re not “zen enough” to practice yoga, think again. Yoga is accessible to anyone.
