Connection
Connection
I’ve been thinking a lot about connection. We need it. We know that. But, what does it really mean to connect with someone?
2020 has unquestionably limited our opportunity for interaction. But maybe it has taught us something about TRULY connecting. Interaction does not equal connection.
Brené Brown says:
“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”
🦋Thoughts🦋
We can’t really be seen and heard if we aren’t presenting our authentic selves. We are never truly valued for pretending to be someone we are not; instead, we devalue ourselves and allow others to do the same. I know...broken record...but there is strength in vulnerability. And when that vulnerability is received with kindness and without judgement, that makes us even stronger.
That doesn’t mean we have to reveal all of our secrets and insecurities to everyone we meet. Of course not. We have a right to privacy. And the right to fight for it.
But we also have a right to real connection. If we accept it. Expect it. Create it. With truth and authenticity.
2020 has given me perspective. I’ve re-evaluated my connections and created new ones. I am grateful and open.
Our yoga practice helps us connect...after all, the word “yoga” means unity or union.
Through yoga, we connect our minds and our bodies. We cultivate empathy and awareness. We connect to the present moment. We improve the function of the vagus nerve. (Google that and prepare to have your mind blown.)
We connect with others by first connecting to ourselves. What a worthy endeavor!
We are enough...in spite of all the obstacles and maybe because of them. I don’t know about you, but I’m a hot mess sometimes. And that’s ok. I am enough. You are, too.
